Escape to Blackberry Farm with Suzanne Kasler
Nestled in the Tennessee foothills, Blackberry Farm is a sweeping countryside enclave: Its 9,200 rolling acres of green are home to 68 uniquely intimate suites. As one of America’s most celebrated intimate luxury hotels and residences, Blackberry Farm, welcomes guests with warmth and style like no other. It’s hard to beat the luxurious simplicity and authenticity of a visit to Blackberry Farm.
Renowned Atlanta designer Suzanne Kasler is to thank for the look of several private homes and shared spaces at Blackberry Farm. Here, Suzanne takes us on an inside tour of her Bonavita residence project recently featured in House Beautiful. Boasting a refined rustic style, Suzanne takes us on a tour of a home thoughtfully layered with Visual Comfort lighting. Plus, get a glimpse of some of Suzanne’s best lighting designs crafted in meaningful materials for a look of effortless sophistication, with an air of country elegance.
Tucked in the foothills, the home appears unassuming from the front, but the back opens up toward a scenic vista. To stay authentic to the surround, Suzanne brought in elements of the outdoors, like exposed-wood archways and stone walls, but limewashed them to create a spa-like environment that feels bright and airy.
In keeping with the home’s ethereal vibe, the team used straight and bent beams to create an organic archway that frames the wine bar. The generous floor plan allows for plenty of spaces to entertain. With a delicate candelabra encased in a mercury-finished glass shade, our Lorford Smoke Bell Lantern in Aged Iron with Mercury Glass, designed by Chapman & Myers, casts a shimmering glow against the rugged stone walls.
Locally sourced wood beams create the mudroom’s ceiling, further tying the home into its setting. To accentuate the natural grain of the wood Suzanne chose to cover in limewash. A pale green hue was selected for the cabinetry complimenting the playful striped window coverings. Our Darlana Extra Large Two-Tier Chandelier in Aged Iron, designed by Chapman & Myers, brings depth and structure that provide both scale and drama to tie the room together. Beloved for its timeless appeal and longevity, the open framework has a distinctive triangular top loop detail connecting the three-dimensional design’s slender components.
Hanging in the dining room is Suzanne Kasler’s Percival Chandelier, a vintage design previously amongst her collection with Visual Comfort. This stylish chandelier combines rusted iron and weathered white wood for an overall effect representative of her elegant casual approach to design. While it may no longer be in production, our good friends at Gracious Home may have a few available.
Suzanne opted for a neutral palette in the master bedroom to appreciate not only the architecture but also the view. Boasting a vintage romantic spirit, Suzanne’s Bordeaux Grande Chandelier hangs in the center of the room from a delicate suspension chain and is mounted with a round canopy. Extending from its spindle-like body, twelve candelabra arms in Natural Rust are designed to create an elegant lighting effect and stunning contrast to the Swedish White finish.
In the guest room, the blend of refined and honest elements continues. Here Suzanne masters the mix with organic materials with modern lines and finishes. To capture the casual, yet luxurious design flow, she adds a sparkle of modernity with her Alexandra Medium Hanging Shade. Crafted with an interlocking geometric frame in an aged iron finish, the Alexandra cleverly encases an inner linen drum shade, resulting in a modest sophistication. Illuminated by four bulbs, this ceiling light provides a beautiful ambiance with a warm, soft glow.
